Laguna de Fuente de Piedra is the largest saltwater lagoon in Spain and one of the most important breeding grounds for flamingos in Europe. Every spring, tens of thousands of flamingos gather here to breed, creating a breathtaking spectacle. The lagoon is surrounded by a beautiful landscape of olive groves and rolling hills, making it an idyllic spot for nature lovers and photographers.
Besides flamingos, the lagoon is home to a diversity of bird species, such as waders, herons and birds of prey, which can be easily observed from the bird-watching huts around the lake. You will see beach plovers, coots, laughing terns, cranes, swallows and gulls, among others. The visitor center offers extensive information on the flora and fauna of the area and organizes regular tours and bird watching excursions. The lagoon, measuring 2.5 km wide and 6.5 km long, is the only salt lake in Spain that does not run completely dry even in the summer – if it is good.
